Denver Part 1
- 4 minutes read - 664 wordsLast Wednesday was not a good day for me. I was really bummed/frustrated/upset about my truck and the slide in my trailer, so I basically wasted a day on the doors of Rocky Mountain National Park by just sitting in my trailer reading a book. Looking back frustrates me again because I’m usually pretty good about not letting things out of my control bother me.
Travel Day - Denver, CO
On Thursday I made the relatively short 80 mile, two hour drive down to a state park in Denver:
It’s been a nice site, with a decent amount of room between sites, and nobody on my awning side. I’ve already seen a lot of wildlife at the site too, including deer, a fox: A bald eagle (should have used the real camera):
And this hawk was less than five feet from the door of my trailer:
Jarrod, Jeff, and Trella visit
On Friday, I had some friends fly out to Denver to visit! Their flight got in early Friday morning, so we grabbed breakfast at a diner and then went to Bluffs Regional Park to do a quick hike. It offered nice views of both Denver and the mountains, but there were no trees for shade so we were glad it was a short hike as it was hot out:
We went back to my trailer to hang out for a bit and then we went to Red Rocks for a concert. We caught the end of Dave Dixon, saw part of Los Lobos and then got kicked out of our seats, and ended up not staying for very much of Tedeschi Trucks Band. We had bought general admission tickets, but unfortunately the rows that were assigned seats versus general admission weren’t clear, so we found some seats: but they were ultimately reserved for somebody else. Also unfortunate that by the time that happened, the sections that were general admission were full, so we ended up standing in an aisle for a bit, not really able to see the stage. It was awesome to see Red Rocks in person, but a bit of a bummer of a concert experience (also hurt by Los Lobos not playing La Bamba). We still had fun though:
On Saturday we went downtown Denver and did some brewery/bar hopping near Coors Field: We headed back to my trailer by dinner so we could all drink and play cards. Unfortunately I was over-served (by me) bourbon and ended up going to bed pretty early too.
Going to bed early helped on Sunday though, as we had to head back to the airport to drop them off at 5:30 AM. I did a little cleanup and a lot of lounging around on Sunday until I went over to my Aunt Debbie and Uncle Ed’s house, who live just down the street from the state park I’m staying at. My cousin Cheryl was also there, it was great to see all of them and helped prevent the low after Jarrod, Jeff, and Trella left.
Monday morning I took my truck in to a Ford dealer, I’ve been having an occasionally warning about the charging system needing service soon. As I dropped it off the service department told me they weren’t sure they would be able to diagnose the problem this week (what’s the point the appointment?), and I wasn’t interested in having my truck sit their for that long, so I ended up not leaving it for them. Looks like a lot of Ford service departments are scheduling three to four weeks out, so decent chance this will be another thing that waits until I get home.
Tuesday I went with Aunt Debbie to see Top Gun: Maverick again, I think it is even better the second time! After the movie we went to downtown Parker, Colorado and had a drink and walked around a bit. After that we stopped by Cheryl’s house so I could see it for the first time.
