Copper and Eagle Harbors

It’s me again, Tracy! It’s Friday, Friday everyone… well you know the rest of the song!
We started the day pretty lazy - got coffee, wrote a blog post, had breakfast, and finally got going for the day. We made the drive up to Montreal Falls. It was a pretty quick drive until we reached the dirt road that led to the trailhead. I don’t know about you but bumpy dirt roads make me a little sick. But we made it down the road in 30 minutes then jumped on the trail. Something interesting about this trail is you start off on private property. The property is beautiful! It seems unreal someone owns it…partially because it seems too beautiful for one family to own but mostly because I don’t know why someone would want to live in the middle of no where.
Anyway, first things first, it was buggy! Hundreds of mosquitos travelled with us throughout our five plus mile hike. But the views were amazing! Both waterfalls were worth the bugs. The first part of the hike was easy to moderate mostly because of the tree roots you had to navigate. The short trek to the second falls was moderate plus since it was mostly up hill. But this harder part was worth getting to see this waterfall!

After this hike we had closed all of our rings for the day so we decided to take it easy. We drove up to Copper Harbor to eat lunch then take a look around. We had lunch at The Mariner North which I would highly recommend! Then we drove up to a few outlooks to view Lake Superior.
We then took the scenic route, Brockway Mountain Drive, to catch some views and learn a little history about these mining towns on our way to Eagle Harbor. It’s still out of season for these harbor towns so everything was closed when we arrived. We did get to drive around the town to read historic signs and see the lighthouse.

We ended the day bar hopping. I was hoping to find some Michigan sour beers. The first local establishment we visited didn’t know what I meant when I asked if they had sours. The second place we visited let me know that sour beers haven’t made their place in the UP yet. But since the bartender was cool and they had live music we decided to stay. Bonfire at The Continental Fire Co. is a beautiful two story building with bars on each floor and one of the most popular event venues in the area. This wedding season (which is 10 weeks long) they have 25 weddings to host. Anyway, if you’re headed to Houghton, check this place out and get the Michigan Mule!
Also, Jason is currently beating me a rummy.
